OriginalAtlas Plate
No. 24
from the
ATLAS TO ACCOMANY THE
OFFICIAL RECORDS OF THE UNION
and CONFEDERATE ARMIES
Printed from 1891-1895
by the Government Printing Office,
Washington, D.C.
======================================
Condition : overall good or better.
Never bound in a book, this plate came from a collection of odd volumes of the original
paper-wrapped sections that the Atlas was originally issued in.
As such, it has no tab on the back and will lay very flat when properly matted.
Paper is a heavier stock and tends to be a bit chippy along the edges.
Lightly and fairly evenly age-toned. Slight darkening of the center fold.
This map has a blind-embossed stamp in the upper right corner,
at the margin line / near the Plate Number line.
The stamp has been reduced / flattened as much as possible,
and is very unobtrusive. If matted, the mat would cover much of it.
I hope it shows properly in the photos.
The frame in the photos is NOT included !
It is just to show how nice the plate can look when famed.
The plate will be shipped to you safely rolled
and packed in a shipping tube.

PLATE No. 24 (XXIV) :
"Campaigns of the ARMY OF THE CUMBERLAND"
Main map covers the areas of Central and Western
Kentucky and Tennessee.
With inset maps of the Siege of Washington, NC,
the City and Battlefield of Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
Confederate General Polk's map of the Battlefield at Perryville,
and Union General Buell's map of the Battlefield at Perryville.
.
Showing the location of Rebel and Union forces,
along with roads, railroad lines and canals.
A beautiful plates - this plate has great colors, blues for rivers,
browns / greens for terrain, and blue / red for troop dispositions.
This map is all about the Army of the Cumberland
under General Thomas, showing lines of march for
all various Corps.
============================================
The Official Records of the War of the Rebellion are even to this day
the single greatest publication on a single conflict in the entire world.
Eventually totaling 128 volumes, the set was printed between 1881 and 1901.
The set was never intended for public sale, but was given to select outlets
(libraries, government offices, etc.) to be accessible to the general public.
From 1891 to 1895 a project was undertaken to compile an atlas volume
to accompany the set. Handsomely printed in multiple colors, these maps
are among the finest military maps ever printed.
It is impossible to know how many copies of the Atlas were ever actually
printed / distributed.
As of 2016 the OLCC only finds 255 copies
left in public institutional locations.
